Meeting Terri-Lynne and working through ideas and edits for Poets of Pevana has been one of the signal experiences of my life. The vision for fantasy and story telling at HRB gives me hope for the future of the industry. I'm ove...OK, I was SO UNPREPARED for this post! I'm overwhelmed and honored by first Eric's post, then Karin's and Terri-Lynne's.

The interesting thing is, I had piqued lots of interest with Song and the Sorceress, even had fulls requested, but the novel was always rejected. Pitching to Eric was a long shot, and I didn't have much hope anymore for this little story that I'd lived with for most of my life and really loved. But I pitched anyway, then I sent it, and found out the day before my birthday that Eric wanted to buy the novel.

Best birthday present EVER!

All I wanted was for my story to have readers. I never dreamed my book would change the future of Hadley Rille or inspire other authors like Karin and Terri-Lynne to submit their own work. That amazes and touches me deeply.

Going to go cry now... thanks everyone! :)Kim Vandervorthttp://www.kimvandervort.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3764159777348916628.post-84965269940877892732011-09-26T07:20:08.088-07:002011-09-26T07:20:08.088-07:00I will add to the "How Fantasy Became Part of...I will add to the "How Fantasy Became Part of HRB Niche" story by saying it was Kim, who I only came to know because she attended the Viable Paradise SF/F workshop the year after I did, and Song and the Sorceress that brought me to Eric and Hadley Rille Books with Finder. Reading her LJ posts about her experience with Eric, and the fact that it was EXACTLY the experience I was looking for, made HRB my first choice in my dream of dreams.
Hey, look at that. Dreams do come true! It's fun to hear ...Thanks for your post, Eric! It's fun to hear the story of how Hadley Rille 'saw the light' and began publishing fantasy.

I guess it might be more accurate to say Kim was the one who brought all of us together, since it was her novel 'The Song and the Sorceress' that sparked my interest in submitting to Hadley Rille Books. Not only the great story she wrote, but also the care and the quality that HRB put into the production of the novel. I wanted 'Eolyn' to look just like that. ;)

So great to have you with us this week. Thanks again!Karin Rita Gastreichhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13788750258292938903noreply@blogger.com
